Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado

In the Sacred Valley of the Incas, among verdant fields and towering mountains, lies the Rio Sagrado Belmond Hotel. Set on the banks Urubamba River, this beautiful hotel is built in natural materials and is located at 4 km outside Urubamba on the way to Ollantaytambo, the hotel provides a perfect environment to acclimatize, and is an ideal base to explore the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

Its construction is relatively recent; it has nothing as modernist attention-grabbing. The nineteen rooms and suites, plus two villas with several rooms are configured as a traditional Andean town and purpose of its forms and materials is to be integrated into the landscape.

All the usual amenities are present, except one: no TV, replaces a beautiful view of the sacred river, through large windows, the suites have private terraces with gardens and villas can accommodate up to six people. The hotel’s restaurant delivers superb Peruvian cuisine created from locally sourced ingredients including organic vegetables from the on-site garden.

The Hotel Rio Sagrado is the ideal place to savor fresh produces, enjoy a local Sacred Valley massage in the Spa, explore the stunning surroundings and cultural attractions, and slip into the spirit of Peruvian life.


There are 21 rooms and suites with local artwork and textiles. All have under-floor heating and spacious bathrooms with rain-head showers, there are also two small villas ideal for families, with three en-suite bedrooms, living area and kitchen, the beds which allow for awakening to a glorious river view, while slanted windows over the showers redefine bathing under the sun.

In this hotel guests can enjoy mystic ceremonies leaded by a shaman of the region and relax in the Spa that offers wet areas plus a wide variety of massages and beauty treatments.
