We are so happy to announce that tourism is back in Cusco and we are happily back in the mountains hiking to Machu Picchu again. On July 15, 2021, when the government opens the Inca Trail back up to tourists, we will officially be on every route we offer. Despite the government reducing the amount of permits available for the 2, 4, 5 and 6 day Inca Trail treks, there are spaces available for the rest of 2021 and all of 2022. We are so excited to welcome everyone back to our wonderful country.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will update this page with relevant information as often as needed with any new information that comes out from Peru\u2019s government about travel in Peru.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

All treks and tours are open for reservations for 2021 AND 2022. If you haven\u2019t already rebooked your trek from 2021, please contact us so we can reserve a new date. You may reschedule anytime in the next 2 years and even choose a different trek!<\/span><\/p>\n

Early 2021 Treks can also be rescheduled to later in 2021 or moved to 2022 or beyond. Contact us for help with this.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Peru has lifted its quarantine requirements for all international travelers. Travelers to Peru\u00a0do<\/strong>\u00a0have to present a negative COVID-19 test result, taken no more than 72 hours before departure, to enter the country.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Machu Picchu Sites Are Now Open<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Peruvian government opened Machu Picchu November 1, 2020 to the general public. Having limited permits per day is the first step towards returning to the good old days at the World Wonder.<\/span><\/p>\n

Short 2 Day Inca Trail Treks Are Open<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe government re-opened the\u00a0short Inca Trail 2D\/1N<\/a> with hotel November 1, 2020. This option is being operated as usual and requires that everyone travels with a licensed tour operator like Cusco Journeys. In order to get to the trailhead, you will need to catch a train from Ollantaytambo to Km 104. This train ticket is included on our itinerary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rainbow Mountain Trek<\/a> Is Open<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The\u00a0famous rainbow mountain\u00a0re-opened November 15, 2020 and can be booked with us. This trek will be a full day and will include both breakfast and lunch cooked by our trekking chef using all the safety protocols.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cusco, Sacred Valley & More Places Are Open<\/span>
\n<\/strong>Different museums and archeological sites have been opened to the public in different cities of Peru. All of these are following the needed safety protocols and also asking for a sign-up done prior to your visit to be able to enter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cusco\u2019s archeological sites are open to the public and guided tours to these locations are available. These are located around: Cusco (Sacsayhuam\u00e1n), South Valley (Tip\u00f3n, Pikillacta) and Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo, Pisaq, Chinchero and Moray).<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, you can transfer Inca Trail Permits to a friend or family member.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Peruvian government is allowing the transfer of Inca Trail permits to another person. Remember, only the Inca Trail 4, 5 and 6 day tours require the historically non-transferrable Inca Trail Permit. If you book or reschedule any of our other tours or treks (for example Sacred Valley, Salkantay, Lares, Machu Picchu packages, etc.), you don\u2019t need an Inca Trail permit so this doesn\u2019t apply to you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cusco Journeys is taking it a step further; you are welcome to transfer your Peru treks to another person for any time during the next 2 years as well.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

How to book my preferred Inca Trail Tour dates?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

All 2021 AND 2022 Inca Trail Treks are open now for reservations.<\/strong><\/span>
\nChoose the best date based on your schedule. However, we encourage you to choose dates and book them if you plan to book during high season. This is because Inca Trail permits sell out quickly for the most popular dates as soon as the government releases permits.\u00a0This is proving true even in 2021 with new protocols for travelers in Peru.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

For alternative trekkers, you can start on any day you wish, as long as we have a minimum group of two trekkers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

  • All of our staff. Including guides, porters, cooks and drivers will go through a COVID19 molecular discard test before being able to work.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Temperature control is mandatory to both staff and passengers.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Hand-washing is mandatory for both our staff and clients.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Cusco Journeys guides always carry a personal first-aid kit including masks, gloves and thermometers, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • The usage of masks is mandatory to both staff and passengers.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • The 1 and a half meters minimum-distance between each person will be respected and organized by our guides.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Our vehicles will be disinfected following the biosecurity protocols given by the Health Ministry in Peru before and after every service.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Inside our vehicles there will always be masks, hand sanitizer and a first-aid kit with oxygen masks, etc. in case any of our clients need them.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • We will only use 50% of the vehicle capacity in order to respect the social distancing requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We are experiencing thousands of calls about cancellations and refunds this time and want you to know that while this is really scary for our company, we are committed to helping our guests, staff and community, and being resilient to come through this together. At this time we are choosing not to lay off any of our regular staff, because they rely on us so they can provide for their families. We are also supporting our porters, for the loss of work, even if only a month, is devastating for their families and communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Most of you have only paid your initial deposits for Cusco Journeys Tours, this is $200 per person. All guests pay the balance of their tour cost when they get to Cusco to start their tour. We ask for your patience and hope that you are able to postpone your tour and move it to a later date in 2020, or 2021, 2022 as your first option.<\/span><\/p>\n
