It will take you along ancient narrow trails deep into the Peruvian countryside and high into the Andean mountains, where you will see perfect Inca constructions, cloud forests, and majestic views of the Vilcanota Valley, ultimately leading you to perhaps the best end point of any multi-day hike on Earth, the iconic Machu Picchu Citadel, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The Classic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cuscojourneys.com\/short-inca-trail-with-camping-2-days-1-night\"><strong>Inca Trail<\/strong><\/a> is an iconic and well-established hike that starts at km 82 (the starting point) up to the Machu Picchu Citadel through its unique Sun Gate (also called Inti Punku).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The total journey is around 42 km (26 miles), not as long as people often expect. However, a good part of it includes steep and narrow Andean mountain trails and is at relatively high altitudes. So it is by no means easy, but it is definitely worth it! Along the way, you will cross the Urubamba River and see the Incan ruins of Llactapata.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><em><strong>Tarayoc to Ayapata:<\/strong><\/em> This is a more challenging section of the trail, as it includes steep uphill sections. Along the way, you will see stunning views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. You will also pass through the small community of Ayapata, where you will spend your first night camping.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Distance to walk: 14 km\/ 8.7 miles<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Difficulty: Moderate<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Day 2: Ayapata to Dead Woman&#8217;s Pass:<\/strong> This is the most challenging section of the hike, as you will climb to the highest point on the trail, Dead Woman&#8217;s Pass (Warmiwa\u00f1usca), at an elevation of 4,200 meters (13,780 feet). The trail is steep and narrow, but the views from the top are stunning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><em><strong>Dead Woman&#8217;s Pass to Chaquicocha:<\/strong><\/em> This section of the trail descends steeply through the cloud forest, passing through several small settlements and reaching pacaymayu (lunch), then continuing over the second pass of runcurakay and reaching the second Chaquicocha campsite.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Distance to walk: 16 km\/ 10 miles<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Difficulty: Challenging<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Day 3: Chaquicocha to Phuyupatamarca:<\/strong> This section of the trail includes several wonderful sections of scenery, passing several Incan ruins along the way, including the impressive ruins of Phuyupatamarca.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><em>Phuyupatamarca to Wi\u00f1aywayna:<\/em> This is the final section of the trail, which includes a steep descent to Wi\u00f1aywayna, another impressive Incan ruin that everyone should explore. Wi\u00f1aywayna is the last campsite, and typically this is where hikers say goodbye to porters.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Distance to walk: 10 km\/ 6.2 miles.<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Difficulty: Easy.<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Day 4: Wi\u00f1aywayna to Machu Picchu:<\/strong> Wake up early, and then the trail continues to <a href=\"https:\/\/manujungletour.com\/short-inca-trail-2-days-1-night\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Inti Punku<\/strong><\/a>, the Sun Gate, where you&#8217;ll have your first view of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.infomachupicchu.com\/salkantay-trek-5-days-4-nights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Machu Picchu<\/a>.
