Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Pacchanta – Comercocha – Azulcocha – Pacchanta – Cusco.

Highlight of the Day: Discover the breathtaking beauty of seven glacial lakes beneath the majestic Ausangate Mountain while experiencing authentic Andean culture and spectacular high-altitude scenery.

Our adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco as we head south toward the picturesque Andean region. Along the way, we’ll pass through charming villages where locals wear colorful, traditional outfits, preserving their vibrant culture. We’ll stop briefly in the town of Ccatcca to explore its beautiful plaza and the quaint streets that give it its unique charm.

Continuing along the inter-ocean highway that connects Peru with Brazil, we’ll arrive at Pacchanta, a community located at over 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) above sea level. Here, a warm, welcoming local family will greet us and invite us to their home for a hearty breakfast made from traditional Andean ingredients.

After breakfast, we’ll set off toward the Vilcanota Mountain Range, where the majestic Ausangate glacier awaits. The thaw from this glacier feeds the stunning lakes we’ll visit on our hike.

We’ll begin our trek with a three-and-a-half-hour uphill climb, reaching the first of the seven breathtaking lagoons. Each lake, spaced 30 minutes to an hour apart, offers a unique beauty. We’ll visit lakes like Azulcocha, Otorongococha, Pucacocha, Alqacocha, and Q’omercocha, each framed by the imposing peaks of the Vilcanota mountain range.

Along this journey, we’ll enjoy sweeping views of snow-covered peaks, including Ausangate (6,834 m), Mariposa (5,842 m), Jampa (5,500 m), Pucapunta (5,740 m), Caracol (5,625 m), Tinke (5,300 m), and the entire Qayangate mountain chain.
