Itinerary

Itinerary:

Day 1: Cusco – Sistine Chapel – Raqchi – Pucara – Puno

Our staff will pick you up from your hotel at 6:30 am, to take you to the tourist bus station heading to Puno.

During the trip, you will make several stops to visit some Inca ruins, museums and the Church of Andahuaylillas, considered the Sistine Chapel of South America for its impressive frescoes.

Next, we will stop at the Inca ruins of Racchi, which used to be a religious and resting place for Inca travelers. The next visit is in La Raya, border between the regions of Cusco and Puno, where you can see the most traditional animals of Peru, llamas and alpacas.

In Pucará we will visit a museum where it is possible to see some pre-Inca remains. Finally, at 5:30 pm we arrive in Puno, where our representative will pick you up to take you to your hotel.

Optional: Andean Explorer Train to Puno.

The Belmond Andean Explorer train features an open-air observatory car, allowing you to take in the majestic views while enjoying the typical music and dances of the Peruvian Highlands. During your trip, you will have the chance to take panoramic pictures of some of the quaint essential Andean landscapes.

  • Meals included: Lunch
  • Accommodation at hotel in Puno.
  • Tickets: Included

Day 2: Floating Uros and Homestay in Amantani Island.

After having breakfast in your hotel, the tour leader will pick you up to take you to the port of Puno. There, you will embark on a 30-minute boat ride until arriving at the Uros floating islands. Peru’s floating islands are built using the buoyant totora reeds that grow along Lake Titicaca, and these reeds are interwoven to make homes, boats, and crafts.

Then, we will have a 3-hour boat ride to get to the Amantani Island, a quiet island known for its hilltop ruins that honor Pachamama and Pachatata (Mother and Father Earth). Here we meet our host families whose generosity is apparent with their open arms (and open doors to their homes) and smiles.

Explore this island with your guide and then settle in to share a short day in the lives of the Aymara.

  • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
  • Accommodation at homestay (Local family).
  • Tickets: Included.

Day 3: Amantani Island – Transfer Out.

You will have an early breakfast with the family and take a boat for two 2 hours to the next island called Taquile. This island is known for its intricate and rich textile and weaving traditions and sustainable tourism practices. You will have the opportunity to walk around the island and enjoy a delicious lunch by the lake.

You will return to Puno around 2:30 p.m. and have a free evening to relax in Puno while waiting for your flight to Lima the next day.

Note: If you have your flight for this day, we recommend that you book for 6:00pm, because the transfer from Puno lasts approximately 1 hour or spend the night in Puno.
