Altitude and Acclimatization

Humantay Lake is located at approximately 4,200 m (13,780 ft) above sea level. Due to the high altitude, some travelers may experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness, especially if they have recently arrived in Cusco.

We recommend spending at least two days in Cusco before your tour to acclimatize. Staying well hydrated, avoiding excessive alcohol, eating light meals, and getting enough rest before your excursion will help you enjoy the hike more comfortably.

Weather Conditions

Weather in the Andes can change rapidly throughout the day.

We recommend dressing in layers and bringing a waterproof jacket or rain poncho, especially during the rainy season from November to March. During the dry season, from May to October, mornings are often cold, while afternoons become warmer under the mountain sun. Being prepared for changing weather conditions will help you stay comfortable throughout the hike.

Personal Belongings

Please carry only the essentials you’ll need during the hike.

We recommend bringing your passport, sunscreen, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, snacks, camera, and extra cash for personal expenses. A lightweight daypack is ideal for keeping your belongings organized and easily accessible throughout the excursion. Please keep your valuables with you at all times, as Cusco Journeys cannot be responsible for unattended personal belongings.
