Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Andahuaylillas – Raqchi – La Raya – Puno.

Highlight of the day: Travel the famous Route of the Sun, visiting Andahuaylillas Church, the impressive Raqchi Archaeological Site, La Raya Pass, and Pucara Museum while enjoying spectacular Andean landscapes on your journey to Puno.

We pick you up at your hotel at 6:00am to take you to the Tourist bus station. This company provide excellent service with an English-speaking tour guide, and a waiter who is ready to assist you with hot and cold drinks on board.

During the trip, you will stop to visit some Inca ruins, museums and the Andahuaylillas Church, which is considered to be the Sistine Chapel of South America because of its amazing frescos.

Then, we stop at the Racchi Inca ruins, which used to be a religious and resting place for Inca travelers. The next visit is at La Raya, the border between the regions of Cusco and Puno, where the most traditional animals of Peru can be seen, llamas and alpacas.

In Pucara, we will visit a museum where it is possible to see some pre-Inca remains. Finally, by 5:30 pm we arrive in Puno, where our representative will pick you up to take you to your hotel.

Optional: Andean Explorer Train to Puno.

The Belmond Andean Explorer train features an open-air observatory car, allowing you to take in the majestic views while enjoying the typical music and dances of the Peruvian Highlands. During your trip, you will have the chance to take panoramic pictures of some of the quaint essential Andean landscapes.

Day 2: Puno – Floating Island – Amantani Island.

Highlight of the day: Visit the famous Uros Floating Islands before enjoying an authentic homestay with a local Aymara family on Amantani Island, where you’ll experience traditional customs, local cuisine, and genuine Andean hospitality.

After having breakfast at your hotel, our guide will pick you up to take you to the port of Puno. From here we will take the boat tour for 30 minutes until we reach the floating islands of Uros, where you will be welcomed by the locals, who will show you the island and the products they weave.

The ancient inhabitants of the lake, known as the Water Tribe, these Andean natives built their own islands by periodically adding new layers of reeds or totoras, also used this material to build houses and boats.

Then, we will have a 3-hour boat ride to get to the Amantani Island, a quiet island known for its hilltop ruins that honor Pachamama and Pachatata (Mother and Father Earth). Here we meet our host families whose generosity is apparent with their open arms (and open doors to their homes) and smiles.

Explore this island with your guide and then settle in to share a short day in the lives of the Aymara. It is a cultural exchange that represents a perspective on their traditions, daily routines and warm hospitality.

Day 3: Amantani Island – Taquile Island – Puno

Highlight of the day: Explore Taquile Island, discover its UNESCO-recognized textile traditions, admire breathtaking views of Lake Titicaca, and learn about one of Peru’s best-preserved Andean communities.

After enjoying a traditional breakfast with your host family on Amantaní Island, we’ll return to the local port and board our boat to the picturesque island of Taquile.

Once we arrive, a guided walk will take us to the main square, where you’ll discover a vibrant Andean community renowned for its hand-woven weaving and strong communal traditions.

As we explore, you’ll discover how Taquileños communicate their social and romantic status through the colors and styles of their traditional clothing, especially men’s hats, which reveal whether someone is single, married, or dating with just a glance. Leadership roles are also recognized by the way the garments are worn, offering a fascinating insight into local identity and customs.

We’ll enjoy a fresh, local lunch at a community restaurant with stunning lake views before descending to the port for our return journey to Puno. We expect to arrive between 2:30 and 3:00 PM, where a comfortable transfer will take you back to your hotel for the night.

Day 4: Transfer from Puno – Juliaca Airport.

Tour Balance Payment

If you have an outstanding balance, we kindly ask that you settle it at least two days before your tour departure to ensure your reservation is fully confirmed.

Whenever possible, we recommend paying the remaining balance in cash during your briefing session. You may pay in either USD or Peruvian Soles. Several ATMs are available in Cusco or Puno, where both currencies can be withdrawn.

Alternatively, we also accept credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal payments online or in person. Please note that a 5% service fee applies to payments made through Niubiz and PayPal. Unfortunately, we cannot accept bank checks or traveler’s checks.

Can I Store My Luggage with Cusco Journeys?
