Itinerary

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Moray – Salt Mine Maras  – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes.

Highlight of the Day: Explore Chinchero, Moray, and the Maras Salt Mines before taking the train to Aguas Calientes.

We will pick you up from your hotel and head to the beautiful town of Chinchero (3,762 m / 12,343 ft), where you will find impressive Inca buildings and a textile art demonstration.

Then, we will continue to the impressive archaeological site of Moray (3,385 m / 11,106 ft), which consists of a series of circular terraces believed to have been used for experimental agriculture and to study the growth of different crops at different altitudes.

Continuing our tour to the famous Salineras de Maras, a group of more than 3,000 pools that have been used since pre-Hispanic times to extract salt from the naturally flowing saltwater in the area. This salt has a pinkish hue and is known for its healing properties and delicious flavor. It makes an excellent gift for someone back home and is perfect for cooking.

Next, we will head to Urubamba to enjoy a buffet lunch with a variety of traditional dishes of your choice (Not Incluided). After a well-deserved rest, we’ll head to Ollantaytambo to board the train that will take us to Aguas Calientes.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you’ll head back to your hotel to rest, or if you prefer, you can stroll through the small town before dinner. It’s also a good idea to enjoy the hot springs of the same name. Tonight, we recommend an early night, as tomorrow you’ll explore the impressive Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

  • Meals: None
  • Accommodation in Aguas calientes.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco.

Highlight of the Day: Visit Machu Picchu with your professional guide before returning to Cusco by train and private transportation.

Start your day early with breakfast at your hotel before boarding one of the first buses to Machu Picchu, ensuring you arrive in time to witness the magical sunrise over the Lost City of the Incas—an unforgettable sight you won’t want to miss.

Upon arrival, your guide will lead a two-hour tour through the most significant areas of Machu Picchu Citadel, explaining its history, architecture, and purpose. Explore the site’s three main sectors: the agricultural terraces, the residential area, and the religious sector, gaining insight into how the Inca civilization once thrived in this awe-inspiring mountain retreat.

After soaking in the spectacular views, take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have time for lunch (not included). Depending on your train departure, you may also explore the town, visit the local market, stop by the museum, or relax in the hot springs.

In the afternoon, board your train following the Urubamba River through the stunning Sacred Valley. As the train winds through the narrow canyon, keep an eye out for the spectacular Wiñay Wayna ruins, visible high up on the mountainside.

After a two-hour journey, you will arrive at Ollantaytambo, where a private bus will be waiting to take you back to Cusco. Upon arrival, we will drop you off at your hotel, concluding your incredible adventure.

Important Note: Machu Picchu archeological site is different from Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. The mountain requires a separate permit for those wishing to hike it. If you are interested in adding this experience, please let us know in advance so we can arrange it for you.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Moray, Salt Mine Maras and Machu Picchu

1.- What makes the Moray, Maras and Machu Picchu tour from Cusco different?

This itinerary combines Moray, the Maras Salt Mines, Chinchero, and Machu Picchu in two days. It also includes the Sacred Valley train journey and one night in Aguas Calientes. It is designed for travelers who want to visit several important archaeological and cultural sites without adding several extra days to their trip.

2.- Can I visit Moray, Maras and Machu Picchu in two days?

Yes. Day 1 is dedicated to Chinchero, Moray, and the Maras Salt Mines before continuing to Aguas Calientes. Day 2 is focused on Machu Picchu, followed by the return journey to Cusco. This allows you to visit these destinations as part of a well-organized two-day itinerary.

3.- Do I need a guide for Moray, Maras and Machu Picchu?

A professional guide is included for the scheduled excursions and Machu Picchu visit. Your guide will explain the history, architecture, agriculture, and local traditions connected with the places you visit. This also helps you better understand the archaeological sites along the route.

4.- What is the best time of year for this tour?

The tour operates throughout the year, so you can choose your dates according to your travel plans. May through October generally has a drier climate, while November through April can bring more rain. Weather conditions can change quickly in the Andes, so it is useful to be prepared for both sun and rain.

5.- How long does the journey from Cusco to Machu Picchu take?

On Day 1, you travel from Cusco through the Sacred Valley before taking the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. The following day, you visit Machu Picchu and then return by train to Ollantaytambo. From there, private transportation takes you back to Cusco.

6.- Is the Moray, Maras and Machu Picchu 2-day tour worth it?

Yes, especially for travelers with limited time who want to combine the Sacred Valley with Machu Picchu. The itinerary includes the agricultural terraces of Moray, the salt pools of Maras, Chinchero, and the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Spending the night in Aguas Calientes also makes the visit to Machu Picchu more convenient.

7.- What is the altitude of Moray and Chinchero?

Chinchero is located at approximately 3,762 m / 12,343 ft, while Moray is at around 3,385 m / 11,106 ft. These elevations are higher than Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu, so you will experience changes in altitude during the first day. It is important to take the tour at a comfortable pace and stay hydrated.

8.- Is the Machu Picchu visit physically difficult?

The standard visit does not require a strenuous hike because the itinerary includes the bus between Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu. You will walk around the archaeological site for approximately two hours, including some steps and uneven surfaces. Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain are optional hikes and require separate permits.

9.- Can I add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain?

Yes, either mountain can be requested as an optional addition, subject to availability. Each requires a separate entrance permit and costs USD $75 according to the tour information. These permits should be requested in advance because availability is limited.

10.- Is this tour suitable if I have limited time in Cusco?

Yes. The two-day itinerary combines Chinchero, Moray, Maras, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu in a short trip. You spend one night in Aguas Calientes instead of returning to Cusco after the first day. This makes the itinerary a practical option for travelers who want to include Machu Picchu while keeping their Cusco stay relatively short.

Before You Go

Travel Information

At Cusco Journeys, we’re committed to making your adventure in Peru memorable, safe, and easy to enjoy. This brief guide includes the most important details to review before starting your trek or tour — from altitude preparation and luggage management to Machu Picchu entry and health tips.

Take a moment to read it carefully; it will help you get ready and experience the magic of the Andes with comfort and confidence.

Briefing Before the Tour

All pre-trek briefings are personally conducted at your hotel in Cusco around 5:00 pm, one or two day before your trek or tour begins. The meeting lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes and is an essential part of your preparation.

During this session, our guide will go over the itinerary in detail, provide your duffel bag, and answer any final questions to ensure you’re fully prepared for your adventure.

Acclimatization in Cusco

It’s very important to be well acclimated to the altitude before starting any trek. Cusco lies at 3,400 meters (11,150 ft) above sea level, and your body needs time to adjust to the thinner air.

We recommend that you arrive in Cusco at least 2 or 3 days before your trek begins to prevent altitude sickness and to enjoy your trip without discomfort.

Trek Balance Payment (in Cusco)

If you have an outstanding balance, please make the payment at least two days before your trek or tour. Otherwise, your reservation cannot be confirmed.

Whenever possible, we kindly ask you to settle the remaining balance in cash (USD or Peruvian Soles) during your briefing session. There are several ATMs along Avenida Sol where you can withdraw both currencies.

You may also pay by credit/debit card or PayPal, either online or in person; however, please note that a 5% service fee will be applied by our payment gateways (Niubiz and PayPal).
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept bank checks or traveler’s checks for balance payments.

Can I store my luggage at your office?

Absolutely! During your trip, you may store your main luggage safely at our office (arrange it with us during your briefing or by email) or at your hotel, both free of charge.

Any items you won’t need during the trek can remain at your hotel — most hotels offer secure luggage storage. Please avoid leaving valuables in your bags; instead, place them in the hotel safe and request an itemized receipt, as many insurance companies require this in case of loss.

For added security, you can also store important items such as credit cards in a sealed and signed envelope.

Machu Picchu Entrance Circuits and Schedule

Machu Picchu now operates with specific timed entries and fixed circuits to preserve the site and ensure an enjoyable experience for all visitors.

Main Circuits

  • Circuit 1: Upper viewpoints and panoramic terraces
  • Circuit 2: Central area of the citadel
  • Circuit 3: Lower sector and agricultural terraces

For our Inca Trail groups, the standard visit is usually Circuit 3, around 8:00 or 9:00 a.m., depending on ticket availability and government regulations. After completing your route, park rangers will guide you toward the exit — re-entry is not allowed.

If you wish to explore another route or stay longer, you can request an additional entrance ticket (subject to availability and extra cost).

Pick-Up of Guests

All pick-ups are made from your hotel within Cusco City. We recommend staying in the historic center for easier access. Our guide will confirm your pick-up time one day before the tour, but please note that it may vary by 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and hotel locations.

Cusco is an ancient city with narrow, cobbled streets, and some hotels or Airbnbs may not have direct vehicle access. If your accommodation is in such an area, we’ll coordinate the closest possible meeting point for your convenience.

Return from Machu Picchu to Cusco

Returning from Machu Picchu involves several steps, but don’t worry — everything is included in your tour. After visiting Machu Picchu, you’ll take a 25-minute bus down to Aguas Calientes (buses operate on a first-come, first-served basis).

From there, you’ll board a train to Ollantaytambo; your guide will provide the tickets and indicate your departure time. Please arrive at the platform 30 minutes before departure.

The train ride takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes, followed by a 2-hour bus journey back to Cusco City.

Group Tours

Our group tours bring together travelers of different ages and fitness levels. Everyone can walk at their own pace, and our guide will manage the group so that all participants enjoy the experience comfortably.

If changes to the itinerary are needed, the guide will decide after consulting with the group.

Strikes and Demonstrations

Occasionally, strikes or protests may occur in Peru, which can affect roads or train schedules. In these cases, Cusco Journeys will make every effort to maintain your itinerary or adjust departure times if needed. Your safety always comes first, and all decisions will be made to protect it.

Lost Objects

You are responsible for your personal belongings throughout the tour. Please be mindful of where you leave your items and make sure to remove everything from our vans, tents, and restaurants after each stop. Avoid leaving anything unattended during the hike, as other trekkers or staff might mistake it for lost property.

To begin the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu 2 Days 1 Night tour, we will pick you up from any hotel in Cusco at 7:30 am, and then take our private transportation to the first stop, the Awanacancha alpaca farm.

Here, you will observe traditional Inca animals: llamas, alpacas, viñunas, and guanacos. Your guide will provide general information, show you a potato exhibition, and a textile center, where they will demonstrate how wool is woven and colored. High-quality alpaca wool will be available for sale.

Next, we will head to the Sacred Valley Lookout (Taray), where we will enjoy views of the Sacred Valley. Afterward, we will visit the famous Pisac market, where women from the Andean villages come down to sell their textiles and vegetables.

After visiting the market, we will continue the journey to the Inca archaeological site of Pisaq, located atop Pisaq Mountain in the Sacred Valley. Your guide will take you to the most impressive sites.

Then, we will drive through the valley for an hour until we reach Urubamba, where we will enjoy lunch. You will enjoy an incredible selection of fresh dishes served buffet-style.

After lunch, we will head to Ollantaytambo, home to the second largest Inca monolith. The ruins house the impressive Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Moon, and the Temple of the Ten niches. This living Inca village features narrow paths lined with water channels.

Then, we will head to the train station, a 15-minute walk from there. There, you will board our train to Aguas Calientes. During the journey, you will see several glaciers and snow-capped peaks, as well as green, fertile valleys and Inca farmland on both sides of the valley.

Our representatives will meet you right outside the train station upon arrival and escort you to your hotel.

      • Overnight at Hotel Wiracocha.
      • Meals included: Buffet Lunch.

Day 2: Aguas calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco.

Highlight of the Day: Visit Machu Picchu early in the morning and explore the citadel with your professional guide.

      FAQs

Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu (FAQs)

1.- What makes the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu 2 Days 1 Night tour unique?

This tour combines the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu in a two-day itinerary. You will visit Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Machu Picchu while learning about Inca history and local traditions. You will also spend one night in Aguas Calientes before visiting Machu Picchu.

2.- Can I visit Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley in one day from Cusco?

It is possible, but you would have very little time at each place. This two-day tour gives you more time to visit the main sites of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Spending the night in Aguas Calientes also makes the visit to Machu Picchu less rushed.

3.- What places will I visit in the Sacred Valley?

The tour includes Awanacancha, the Taray viewpoint, Pisac Market, the Pisac archaeological site, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo. You will see Inca ruins, local markets, traditional textiles, and Andean landscapes. Your guide will provide information about the main places you visit.

4.- Do I need a guide for the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour?

Yes, a professional English- or Spanish-speaking guide is included in the tour. Your guide will accompany you at the main archaeological sites and explain their history and significance. This is especially useful at Machu Picchu, where the guide will lead the main visit.

5.- What is the best time to visit the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu?

The dry season from April to October generally has less rain and more stable weather. From November to March, there can be more rain, but the landscapes are greener. Both seasons are suitable for the tour, so your choice can depend on your travel dates and weather preferences.

6.- What should I wear for the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour?

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for walking around archaeological sites. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a light jacket, as temperatures can change during the day. A rain jacket or poncho is also useful, especially during the rainy season.

7.- How long is the train ride from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes?

The train journey usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the service and schedule. The route follows the Urubamba River through the valley toward Aguas Calientes. During the journey, you can see mountains, green valleys, and Inca agricultural areas.

8.- Can I store my luggage during the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour?

Yes, you can arrange luggage storage at our office or your hotel during the trip. We recommend taking only what you need for the night in Aguas Calientes. This makes it easier to travel by train and move around the different sites.

9.- Can I add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain to this 2-day tour?

Yes, you can request Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain if permits are available. Each mountain requires a separate entrance ticket and costs USD 75 per person. Please request this option when booking so we can check availability in advance.

10.- What circuit will we follow at Machu Picchu during the tour?

The current tour information states that the visit follows Circuit 2, subject to availability. This circuit allows you to see important areas of the citadel, including terraces, residential areas, and religious structures. The final circuit depends on the entrance ticket available for your travel date.

          Overview

Overview of the Machu Picchu One Day Tour from Cusco

Our Machu Picchu Day Tour is designed for travelers with limited time who want to visit Machu Picchu without staying overnight in Aguas Calientes. The tour begins early in Cusco and takes you by road and train to the town of Aguas Calientes, the main access point to Machu Picchu.

The train journey follows the Urubamba River through the Andes, passing mountain valleys, traditional villages and increasingly lush vegetation as you approach the cloud forest. From Aguas Calientes, you will take the bus up to the archaeological site.

At Machu Picchu, your professional guide will explain the history, architecture and cultural importance of the citadel as you visit its main areas. After your visit, you will return to Aguas Calientes, have free time for lunch or to explore the town and then begin your journey back to Cusco.

We recommend this tour for travelers who have limited time. If you prefer a slower itinerary with more time in the area, consider our 2-day train tour or Short Inca Trail.

          Highlights

          • Travel by train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes through the Sacred Valley and along the Urubamba River.

          Itinerary

Detailed Itinerary – Machu Picchu One Day Tour

          Day 1 – Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco.

Highlight of the Day: Explore Machu Picchu with your guide and visit some of the most important areas of the Inca citadel before returning to Cusco the same day.

Your Machu Picchu One Day Tour from Cusco by train begins early in the morning with hotel pick-up in Cusco, followed by a scenic drive to Ollantaytambo, where you will board the train to Aguas Calientes.

During the train journey, you will enjoy spectacular views of the Andes as the landscape gradually changes from high mountain valleys to lush cloud forest. Along the way, you will pass traditional villages, the Urubamba River, and impressive Inca agricultural terraces.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will take a bus up to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Once inside, your guide will lead a detailed tour of approximately two hours, explaining the history, architecture, and cultural importance of this iconic Inca site.

          Machu Picchu Visit

During the visit, you will explore key areas such as the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana stone, and the Temple of the Three Windows, while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

After the guided tour, you will have some free time to explore on your own or take photos. If you have reserved permits in advance, you may also hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for a different perspective of the site.

In the afternoon, you will return to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch or explore the town before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, our transport will take you back to Cusco, arriving in the evening.

Please note: Pick-up and drop-off times may vary depending on your confirmed train schedule. Circuit 2 (Classic) is the most requested option; if it is not available, we will secure the best alternative (Circuit 1 or 3). We recommend booking in advance, as entrance tickets are limited and the best schedules sell out quickly.

          Before You Go

          Travel Information – Cusco Journeys

At Cusco Journeys, we’re committed to making your adventure in Peru memorable, safe, and easy to enjoy. In this guide, you’ll find the most important details to review before starting your trek or tour — from altitude preparation and luggage management to Machu Picchu entry and health tips.

Therefore, we recommend taking a moment to read it carefully, as it will help you get ready and experience the magic of the Andes with comfort and confidence.

Your South Valley Tour from Cusco begins with a convenient hotel pick-up and a scenic drive toward Tipon, one of the finest examples of Inca hydraulic engineering in the Cusco region. Explore its terraces, channels, fountains, and carefully designed water systems while learning how the Incas used water for agriculture and daily life.

From Tipon, continue to Pikillacta, an important archaeological site built by the Wari civilization between approximately 700 and 900 AD. Walk through its organized streets, multi-story structures, and ancient ceremonial areas while discovering the advanced urban planning of this pre-Inca culture.

Your final major stop is Andahuaylillas Church, one of the finest examples of colonial religious art in the region and popularly known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas.” Admire its richly decorated interior, impressive murals, golden altars, and beautifully painted ceilings while learning about the artistic traditions that developed during the colonial period.

After visiting these three remarkable attractions, return to Cusco. This approximately 5.5-hour South Valley Tour combines archaeology, history, architecture, and Andean scenery in a relaxed half-day experience away from the busiest tourist routes.

                      Pisac, Ollantaytambo & Chinchero

At 7:30 AM, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and begin the Sacred Valley tour. We drive past the impressive Saqsaywaman fortress and cross the mountains on our way to the valley. As we descend about 1,500 feet to the valley floor, the views open up to the Urubamba River and the picturesque village of Pisac.

Our first stop is the traditional market in Pisac, where you can wander through the colorful stalls and browse local crafts, textiles, and souvenirs. You’ll have around 30 minutes here to explore at your own pace. After the market, we drive up to the Pisac ruins, where the hillside terraces and Inca structures offer breathtaking views of the valley below.

At Pisac, your guide will lead you through the Citadel, showing temples, houses, altars, carvings, tunnels, caves, and the famous Intihuatana, also known as the “Hitching Post of the Sun.” You’ll have roughly 90 minutes to explore these impressive ruins.

After Pisac, we continue to Urubamba for a lunch stop of about 45 minutes. Following lunch, it’s a short 30-minute drive to Ollantaytambo, surrounded by sacred mountains. Here, you’ll have about an hour to explore the fortress, terraces, and Inca streets while learning about its history and significance from your guide.

On the way back to Cusco, we stop at the picturesque town of Chinchero, where we visit the ruins of a royal hacienda built for Tupac Inca Yupanqui.

You’ll admire the well-preserved Inca wall in the main plaza and visit the beautiful colonial church with intriguing frescoes painted on its portico, all built on Inca foundations. After exploring Chinchero, we return to Cusco and transfer you back to your hotel, marking the end of an unforgettable journey through the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

                      Entrance Tickets

Please note that entrance tickets are not included in all tour options.

                      • The archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay require the Cusco Tourist Ticket (Boleto Turístico del Cusco).

                      • If you have any questions about entrance fees, our team will be happy to assist you before your tour begins.

                      Weather Conditions

Cusco’s weather can change quickly throughout the day, so we recommend wearing layered clothing for greater comfort.

                      • Bring a light jacket or sweater, especially during the morning and evening.
                      • During the rainy season (November to March), carry a rain poncho or waterproof jacket.
                      • We also recommend wearing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen throughout the year.
                      • Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended, as several archaeological sites have uneven stone paths and steps.

Day 1: San Pedro Market – Aqueduct of Sapantiana – Qoricancha – San Blas – 7 Borreguitos Street

Highlight of the Day: Explore Cusco’s historic streets while discovering Inca temples, colonial architecture, colorful markets, and charming neighborhoods with an experienced local guide.

We’ll pick you up from your hotel at the scheduled time for our Cusco adventure, and then embark on a fascinating walking tour of the city’s most iconic sites and hidden treasures.

Our first stop is San Pedro Market, one of Cusco’s oldest and most vibrant markets. Designed by Gustave Eiffel and opened in 1925, it offers a sensory delight with colorful textiles, exotic fruits, street food, and handicrafts. Our guide will explain its cultural significance and introduce you to the local vendors—a great time to practice your Spanish or Quechua.

Next, visit the Handicraft Market on Avenida El Sol, a great place to shop for souvenirs. Here you’ll find alpaca clothing, jewelry, paintings, and pottery, all locally made. Cash is recommended, as most stalls don’t accept cards.

We then continue to Qoricancha, the famous Temple of the Sun, once the most sacred site of the Inca Empire. Admire the finely carved stone walls and learn about their transformation into the Santo Domingo Convent by the Spanish colonizers. The fusion of Inca and colonial architecture offers a powerful visual narrative of Cusco’s history.

From there, head to the peaceful Sapantiana Aqueduct, a colonial-era marvel where water flows through stone terraces beneath arched walls. It’s a peaceful and little-known spot, perfect for taking photos and soaking up the atmosphere.

End the tour on one of the famous streets, such as 7 Borreguitos, a charming and photogenic alley lined with colorful houses, staircases, and flowers—a hidden gem adored by travelers and locals alike.

After the tour, enjoy free time to return to your favorite stops, relax in a nearby café, or continue exploring the magic of Cusco at your own pace.

Dress in layers and bring a light waterproof jacket or rain poncho, especially during the rainy season from November to March. In addition, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are recommended throughout the year because of the strong mountain sun.

Highlight of the Day: Discover the fascinating blend of Inca engineering and colonial architecture while visiting Cusco’s most iconic archaeological and historical sites.

We will meet you at your hotel lobby at 12:15 PM to begin the Cusco City Tour. Our first stop is Cusco’s Plaza de Armas, where you’ll visit the beautiful Cusco Cathedral, a stunning example of colonial architecture.

From there, we’ll walk through an ancient Inca-built street to Qoricancha, the Temple of the Sun. This was the spiritual heart of the Inca Empire, and here you’ll see how Inca architecture blends with Catholic influences.

Next, we’ll head to Sacsayhuaman, an extraordinary site at (3700m/12,139 ft), known for its massive stone walls, some weighing over 200 tons. The panoramic view of Cusco from here is breathtaking, offering a bird’s-eye view of the entire city, surrounded by mountains.

We’ll then visit Qenqo, a fascinating site known for its Inca altars and intricate carvings. This site was used by the Incas for ceremonies and rituals, and you’ll be amazed by the rock formations and the mysterious channels carved into the rock.

Afterward, we’ll head to Puca Pucara, a small but strategically significant military site. Perched at (3600m/11,811 ft), this circular complex was likely used to control access to Cusco and its surrounding regions.

Finally, we’ll arrive at Tambomachay, the Inca water temple. This remarkable site, located at (3700m/12,139 ft), is famous for its fountains and aqueducts, which were designed to channel water for ritual purposes. The advanced engineering skills of the Incas are evident in how the water flows through carefully crafted channels that have lasted for centuries.

Afterward, we’ll return to Cusco, where the Cusco City Tour ends at the main square. If you’re on a private tour, we’ll drop you off at your hotel for a comfortable end to your journey.

Often called the “Galápagos of Peru,” these islands boast stunning rock formations, natural arches, and caves that provide shelter to thousands of sea lions, seabirds, and rare Humboldt penguins. As we navigate the waters, you’ll witness flocks of seabirds, playful sea lions, and dramatic coastal scenery.

Along the way, we will also pass by the mysterious “El Candelabro”, an enormous geoglyph etched into the hillside. Its origins and purpose remain an enigma, much like the Nazca Lines.

We then continue our journey south to Ica, just an hour from Paracas. Our next stop is the breathtaking Huacachina Oasis, a stunning desert lagoon surrounded by towering sand dunes. This unique spot is a favorite for adventure seekers, offering sandboarding—a thrilling board sport similar to snowboarding, but on sand.

After the tour, you’ll have free time to enjoy lunch at your leisure (not included).

In the afternoon, we board our bus and head further south towards Nazca, arriving by late afternoon. Nestled in a lush valley, Nazca is surrounded by arid desert landscapes and home to some of the highest sand dunes on Earth.

                                      • Overnight stay in a selected hotel in Nazca.
                                      • Meals included: Breakfast.

Day 3: Nazca Lines – Ica – Chincha – Lima

Highlight of the day: Fly over the Nazca Lines and admire ancient geoglyphs such as the Hummingbird, Monkey, Condor, Spider, Dog, and Astronaut while discovering one of Peru’s most important UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

We begin the day with a hotel pickup and transfer to the Nazca airport for an unforgettable 45-minute flight over the Nazca Lines.

From the air, you’ll witness 13 massive geoglyphs, including the Astronaut, Monkey, Condor, Hummingbird, and more—ancient figures etched into the desert over 2,000 years ago. Before boarding, you’ll watch an informative video exploring the different theories behind the origins and purpose of these mysterious markings.

You’ll fly in a CESSNA 206 aircraft, which accommodates two pilots (pilot and co-pilot) and six passengers, ensuring that each passenger has a window seat. To provide the best viewing experience, the pilot will make passes over each figure from both the right and left sides, guaranteeing that everyone gets a clear view.

After the flight, we will transfer you to the bus station for your return journey to Lima (approximately 6 hours). Upon arrival at the Lima bus station, a Cusco Journeys representative will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel.
