Briefing Before the Trek
All pre-trek briefings are personally conducted at your hotel in Cusco around 5:00 pm, one or two day before your trek or tour begins. The meeting lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes and is an essential part of your preparation.
During this session, our guide will go over the itinerary in detail, provide your duffel bag, and answer any final questions to ensure you’re fully prepared for your adventure.
Acclimatization in Cusco
It’s very important to be well acclimated to the altitude before starting any trek. Cusco lies at 3,400 meters (11,150 ft) above sea level, and your body needs time to adjust to the thinner air.
We recommend that you arrive in Cusco at least 2 or 3 days before your trek begins to prevent altitude sickness and to enjoy your trip without discomfort.
What to Do Before Your Trek
During your acclimatization days, take it easy and explore some nearby attractions:
Cusco City Tour: Discover the Main Square, the Cathedral, and the Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha).
Sacred Valley Tour: Visit Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and the famous Maras Salt Mines.
Moray & Maras Excursion: Learn about ancient Inca agricultural techniques.
Q’eswachaka Bridge Tour: Experience the last Inca handwoven bridge still used today.

Machu Picchu Entrance Circuits and Schedule
Machu Picchu now operates with specific timed entries and fixed circuits to preserve the site and ensure an enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Main Circuits

For our Inca Trail groups, the standard visit is usually Circuit 3, around 8:00 or 9:00 a.m., depending on ticket availability and government regulations. After completing your route, park rangers will guide you toward the exit — re-entry is not allowed.
If you wish to explore another route or stay longer, you can request an additional entrance ticket (subject to availability and extra cost).

All pick-ups are made from your hotel within Cusco City. We recommend staying in the historic center for easier access. Our guide will confirm your pick-up time one day before the tour, but please note that it may vary by 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and hotel locations.
Cusco is an ancient city with narrow, cobbled streets, and some hotels or Airbnbs may not have direct vehicle access. If your accommodation is in such an area, we’ll coordinate the closest possible meeting point for your convenience.
Return from Machu Picchu to Cusco
Returning from Machu Picchu involves several steps, but don’t worry — everything is included in your tour. After visiting Machu Picchu, you’ll take a 25-minute bus down to Aguas Calientes (buses operate on a first-come, first-served basis).

Strikes and Demonstrations
Occasionally, strikes or protests may occur in Peru, which can affect roads or train schedules. In these cases, Cusco Journeys will make every effort to maintain your itinerary or adjust departure times if needed. Your safety always comes first, and all decisions will be made to protect it.
Lost Objects

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Rainbow Mountain Peru
1.- How tough is the Rainbow Mountain trek?
The Rainbow Mountain trek isn’t technically difficult, but the high altitude (over 5,000 meters / 16,000 ft) can make it feel harder. Most visitors find the walk up to the colorful peaks manageable if they acclimate in Cusco for a few days beforehand.
2.- How long does the hike Rainbow Mountain take?
The round-trip hike to Rainbow Mountain usually takes about 4–5 hours. That includes 2 hours uphill and 2 hours back down, with some extra time for resting and enjoying the views.
3.- Can I experience altitude sickness on the Vinicunca trek?
Yes, altitude sickness is possible during the trekking Vinicunca. To minimize risk:
Spend a few days in Cusco before your hike
Drink plenty of water
Consider Coca tea or altitude medicine
Move at a steady pace and don’t rush
Even with preparation, it’s common to feel slightly dizzy or tired, but most hikers adjust fine.
4.- When is the best season to hike Rainbow Mountain?
The best months for the Rainbow Mountain trek are April through December, when the trails are dry and the weather is clear. The rainy season, from January to March, can make the hike slippery and less enjoyable.

Important Travel Information
Make the Most of Your Rainbow Mountain Adventure with Cusco Journeys
At Cusco Journeys, we want your visit to Rainbow Mountain to be safe, comfortable, and unforgettable. This full day adventure takes you through the beautiful landscapes of the southern Andes, traditional rural communities, and one of the most impressive natural attractions in the Cusco region. Please review the following information before your tour to ensure you have the best possible experience.
A little preparation will help you enjoy the hike, the scenery, and the high altitude environment with greater comfort.
Hotel Pick Up
We provide complimentary hotel pick up from accommodations located in Cusco’s Historic Center.
✓ Pick up begins according to the confirmed tour schedule. ✓ Our team will confirm your exact pick up time the day before your tour. ✓ If your hotel is located on a narrow street or in an area with limited vehicle access, we’ll arrange the nearest convenient meeting point. This helps ensure a smooth start to your tour. ✓ Please be ready in your hotel lobby at least 10 minutes before your scheduled pick up time. This helps avoid delays for the group.
Altitude and Acclimatization
Rainbow Mountain reaches an altitude of approximately 5,200 m (17,060 ft) above sea level. The high elevation can make the hike feel more demanding, even for travelers with previous hiking experience.
We recommend spending at least two days in Cusco before your tour to allow your body to adjust to the altitude. Staying hydrated, avoiding alcohol, getting enough rest, and maintaining a comfortable pace during the hike can help you enjoy the experience.
Weather Conditions
Weather in the southern Andes can change quickly throughout the day. Conditions at Rainbow Mountain can vary because the route reaches high elevation, where temperatures, wind, sunlight, and rain can change within a short period.
Dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket or rain poncho. Warm clothing is especially important during the early morning and while hiking at high elevation. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are also essential because sunlight can be strong in the Andes.
Food and Dietary Requirements
Breakfast and lunch are included in the tour. Meals are planned to provide you with the energy you need for the journey and the hike to Rainbow Mountain.
If you have vegetarian, vegan, allergy related, or other dietary requirements, please let us know when booking. Informing us in advance allows our team to coordinate your meals and make the appropriate arrangements for your tour.
Health and Safety
Your safety is our priority throughout the excursion. Rainbow Mountain is located at high elevation, so proper acclimatization and a comfortable walking pace are important during the hike.
Our guides carry a First Aid Kit and emergency oxygen during the tour. We recommend informing your guide if you feel unwell at any point during the excursion. If you have concerns about traveling to high altitude, we also recommend consulting your doctor before the tour.
Personal Belongings
Please carry only the items you need for the day. A lightweight daypack is ideal for keeping your personal belongings organized and easily accessible during the hike.
We recommend bringing your passport, camera, sunscreen, sunglasses, water, snacks, and personal medication. Always keep your valuables with you throughout the excursion, as Cusco Journeys cannot be responsible for unattended personal belongings.
Weather or Route Changes
Weather conditions and road situations in the Andes may occasionally require minor itinerary adjustments. Mountain conditions can change during the day, and road conditions can also affect travel times.
If a change becomes necessary for safety reasons, your guide and our operations team will choose the best alternative according to the conditions. Our priority is to provide a safe, enjoyable, and well organized adventure while adapting to local conditions when necessary.

1.- What is the best time of year to do the Ancascocha Trek 5 Days 4 Nights
The best time to hike the Ancascocha Trek is from May to September, when the Andes offer clearer skies, more stable weather, and excellent visibility of snow capped peaks and glacial valleys. During these months, trail conditions are safer and river crossings are easier, making the experience more enjoyable despite colder nights at high altitude
2.- How far in advance should I book the Ancascocha Trek
Booking at least 2 to 3 months in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak trekking season. This allows enough time to secure camping logistics, experienced guides, and Machu Picchu entrance tickets, including the highly requested Circuit 2A, which has limited daily availability
3.- Is Machu Picchu Circuit 2A included in this trek
Yes, this trek includes entry to Machu Picchu using Circuit 2A, which offers the most complete route through the citadel. Because this circuit sells out quickly, it must be reserved in advance at the time of booking to guarantee access on your travel date
4.- Why is Circuit 2A the most recommended circuit at Machu Picchu
Circuit 2A provides access to the classic panoramic viewpoints, agricultural terraces, and main ceremonial and residential areas. This route allows visitors to understand the full scale, urban planning, and spiritual importance of Machu Picchu in a single comprehensive visit
5.- What happens if Circuit 2A is sold out
If Circuit 2A is unavailable at the time of booking, an alternative official circuit will be offered according to availability. However, reserving early greatly increases the likelihood of securing Circuit 2A, which is why advance planning is strongly advised
6.- How remote is the Ancascocha Trek compared to other treks in Cusco
The Ancascocha Trek travels through remote Andean valleys rarely visited by mass tourism. Trekkers experience long stretches without encountering other groups, creating a sense of isolation and connection with nature that is difficult to find on more popular routes
7.- What type of accommodation is provided during the trek
Accommodation includes fully equipped camping with high quality tents, sleeping arrangements, and dining tents during the trek, followed by a comfortable hotel stay in Aguas Calientes. This combination ensures rest, safety, and comfort throughout the journey
8.- Is the Ancascocha Trek suitable for travelers without altitude experience
This trek is best suited for travelers in good physical condition. Spending at least two to three days acclimatizing in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before the trek is essential to reduce altitude related discomfort and enjoy the experience safely
9.- How cold are the nights on the Ancascocha Trek
Temperatures can drop below freezing at high altitude camps, especially near Ancascocha Lake and Huayanay Pass. Proper cold weather clothing, thermal layers, and a high quality sleeping bag are necessary for a comfortable night’s rest
10.- What kind of meals are included during the trek
All meals during the trek are freshly prepared by a professional trekking chef using local ingredients. The menu combines Andean flavors with international dishes, providing balanced nutrition and energy for high altitude hiking
11.- Can the Ancascocha Trek be arranged as a private tour
Yes, the trek can be organized as a private service, offering personalized pacing, flexible departure dates, and one on one attention from guides and support staff, ideal for couples, families, or small groups
12.- Who is the Ancascocha Trek best suited for
This trek is ideal for travelers seeking a challenging high altitude adventure combined with remote landscapes, cultural encounters, and a rewarding arrival at Machu Picchu. It is especially appealing to those who value solitude, scenery, and authenticity over crowded routes
Before You Go
Make the Most of Your Peru Adventure with Cusco Journeys
At Cusco Journeys, we’re committed to making your adventure in Peru memorable, safe, and easy to enjoy. This brief guide includes the most important details to review before starting your trek or tour — from altitude preparation and luggage management to Machu Picchu entry and health tips.
Take a moment to read it carefully; it will help you get ready and experience the magic of the Andes with comfort and confidence.
Rainbow Mountain Tour: Hike to one of Peru’s most stunning natural wonders, famous for its vibrant, multi-colored slopes.
These short tours are perfect for getting used to the altitude while discovering the region’s rich history.
Trek Balance Payment (in Cusco)
If you have an outstanding balance, please make the payment at least two days before your trek or tour. Otherwise, your reservation cannot be confirmed.
Whenever possible, we kindly ask you to settle the remaining balance in cash (USD or Peruvian Soles) during your briefing session. There are several ATMs along Avenida Solwhere you can withdraw both currencies.
You may also pay by credit/debit card or PayPal, either online or in person; however, please note that a 5% service fee will be applied by our payment gateways (Niubiz and PayPal). Unfortunately, we are unable to accept bank checks or traveler’s checks for balance payments.
Duffel Bag or Canvas Case
You’ll receive a duffel bag or canvas case during the briefing. Size: 60 × 24 × 22 cm (23.6 × 9.45 × 8.66 in), Maximum weight: 6 kg / 13 lb, including clothes and personal items.
Our team of porters will carry your bag throughout the trek and hand it back to you at each camp. Remember that this limit includes your sleeping bag and any personal belongings you wish to take.
Can I store my luggage at your office?
Absolutely!During your trip, you may store your main luggage safely at our office (arrange it with us during your briefing or by email) or at your hotel, both free of charge.
Any items you won’t need during the trek can remain at your hotel — most hotels offer secure luggage storage. Please avoid leaving valuables in your bags; instead, place them in the hotel safe and request an itemized receipt, as many insurance companies require this in case of loss.
For added security, you can also store important items such as credit cards in a sealed and signed envelope.
Machu Picchu Entrance Circuits and Schedule
Machu Picchu now operates with specific timed entries and fixed circuits to preserve the site and ensure an enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Main Circuits
Circuit 1: Upper viewpoints and panoramic terraces
Circuit 2: Central area of the citadel
Circuit 3: Lower sector and agricultural terraces
For our Inca Trail groups, the standard visit is usually Circuit 3, around 8:00 or 9:00 a.m., depending on ticket availability and government regulations. After completing your route, park rangers will guide you toward the exit — re-entry is not allowed.
If you wish to explore another route or stay longer, you can request an additional entrance ticket (subject to availability and extra cost).
Pick-Up of Guests
From there, you’ll board a train to Ollantaytambo; your guide will provide the tickets and indicate your departure time. Please arrive at the platform 30 minutes before departure.
The train ride takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes, followed by a 2-hour bus journey back to Cusco City.
Group Tours
Our group tours bring together travelers of different ages and fitness levels. Everyone can walk at their own pace, and our guide will manage the group so that all participants enjoy the experience comfortably.
If changes to the itinerary are needed, the guide will decide after consulting with the group.
You are responsible for your personal belongings throughout the tour. Please be mindful of where you leave your items and make sure to remove everything from our vans, tents, and restaurants after each stop. Avoid leaving anything unattended during the hike, as other trekkers or staff might mistake it for lost property.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Soqma – Rayan – Chancachuco
At the scheduled time, our team will pick you up directly from your hotel. From there, we’ll drive for approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes through the breathtaking Sacred Valley until we reach the remote Andean village of Soqma (3,205 m / 10,512 ft), the official starting point of your Ancascocha Trek 4 Days 3 Nights adventure.
Here, our horsemen and support team will be ready with all equipment and supplies. The trek begins with a gentle ascent through a peaceful side valley. After about 1.5 hours of hiking, we arrive at the stunning Perolniyoc Waterfall, considered one of the most beautiful natural falls in the Sacred Valley. It’s a perfect spot to rest, take photos, and enjoy the cool mountain air.
From the waterfall, we continue uphill for another hour to reach the archaeological site of Perolniyoc, perched just above the falls. Your guide will provide insights into this lesser-known Inca ruin, its cultural importance, and the stories that shaped this ancient region.
Following our visit, we hike another hour to reach our first lunch spot, where a nourishing Andean meal will help us refuel for the afternoon climb.
In the afternoon, we face a challenging but rewarding ascent. A steady 3-hour uphill hike takes us to Puka Kassa Pass (4,450 m / 14,596 ft). Though this is the most demanding section of the day due to the high altitude, the scenery is absolutely spectacular.
Panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and the entire Sacred Valley unfold before your eyes. Reaching the top is a moment of pride and awe—you’ve conquered one of the highest passes in the region!
After soaking in the dramatic Andean vistas, we descend for about 1.5 hours toward our campsite at Chancachuco, where a warm dinner and well-deserved rest await.

Along the trail, the snow-capped Veronica Mountain (5,950 m / 19,600 ft) dominates the landscape, offering impressive views as we descend into the Ancascocha Valley.
After crossing a small stream, the trail climbs steadily for about two hours to reach Ancascocha Lake (4,090 m / 13,100 ft), a pristine high-altitude lake that gives its name to both the village and the trek.
From here, we follow a well-preserved section of the Inca Trail, ascending gradually for another two hours to the highest point of the route, Huayanay Pass (4,650 m / 15,300 ft), where panoramic mountain views reward the effort.
We then descend into the Huayanay Valley, stopping at Inca Raqay for lunch, before continuing downhill for approximately three hours to the Qesqa community (3,650 m / 11,910 ft). This well-preserved complex highlights the Incas’ advanced engineering and strategic planning. Your trekking guide will explain its historical and cultural importance before allowing time to explore the site and take photographs.
From Paucar Cancha, the trail continues for about four hours toward Km 82, the official starting point of the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Along the way, we stop at Willcaraqay, a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the remarkable ruins of Patallacta, known for its extensive agricultural terraces.

Upon arrival, your guide will provide a two-hour guided tour of the Machu Picchu Citadel, covering its most important areas and explaining its history, architecture, and function. Visit the three main sectors of the site: the agricultural terraces, the residential zone, and the religious area, gaining a clear understanding of how the Inca civilization organized life at this mountain sanctuary.
After the guided visit, return by bus to Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time for lunch (not included). Depending on your train schedule, you may explore the town, visit the local market, stop at the museum, or relax in the hot springs.

1.- Why is the Ancascocha Trek 4 Days 3 Nights considered one of the best alternatives to the Inca Trail?
The Ancascocha Trek 4 Days 3 Nights is widely recognized as a top alternative to the Classic Inca Trail because it offers the same historical connection to Machu Picchu while providing a far more remote and uncrowded experience. Unlike the traditional Inca Trail, this route crosses high mountain passes, pristine lakes, and authentic Andean communities rarely visited by mass tourism.
2.- Does the Ancascocha Trek connect with the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu?
Yes. One of the unique features of the Ancascocha Trek is that it joins the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu at Km 82, allowing trekkers to walk a preserved section of the original Inca Trail before continuing by train to Aguas Calientes and visiting Machu Picchu.
3.- How difficult is the Ancascocha Trek compared to other treks in Cusco?
The Ancascocha Trek 4 Days 3 Nights is considered moderate to challenging due to its high altitude and long hiking days. Crossing Huayanay Pass (4,650 m / 15,300 ft) makes it more demanding than the Classic Inca Trail, but extremely rewarding for hikers in good physical condition seeking a true high-altitude Andean trek.
4.- What makes Ancascocha Trek ideal for travelers looking for solitude?
This route is an off-the-beaten-path trek in Cusco, with very few trekking groups per week. Unlike crowded routes, the Ancascocha Trek offers quiet campsites, untouched valleys, and a strong sense of isolation, making it ideal for travelers who value wilderness, silence, and authentic mountain landscapes.
5.- What type of landscapes can I expect on the Ancascocha Trek?
The trek crosses diverse Andean ecosystems, including high-altitude grasslands, glacial valleys, alpine lakes, wetlands, and cloud forests. Highlights include Ancascocha Lake, panoramic views of Veronica Mountain, and dramatic scenery from the Vilcanota mountain range.
6.- Is the Ancascocha Trek suitable for photographers and nature lovers?
Absolutely. The Ancascocha Trek 4 Days 3 Nights offers exceptional opportunities for landscape photography, wildlife observation, and cultural photography. Snow-capped peaks, turquoise lakes, traditional villages, and ever-changing light conditions create outstanding visual contrasts throughout the trek.
7.- How high is the Ancascocha Trek and how does altitude affect the hike?
The trek reaches its highest point at Huayanay Pass (4,650 m / 15,300 ft). Due to the altitude, proper acclimatization in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before the trek is essential. The gradual ascent and experienced guides help minimize altitude-related discomfort.
8.- What cultural experiences are included on the Ancascocha Trek?
In addition to Inca archaeological sites like Perolniyoc, Paucar Cancha, and Inca Raqay, trekkers interact with remote Andean communities where local families still practice traditional farming and herding methods passed down from Inca ancestors.
9.- Is a permit required for the Ancascocha Trek like the Inca Trail?
No special government permit is required for the Ancascocha Trek, unlike the Inca Trail. This flexibility makes it an excellent option for travelers who could not secure Inca Trail permits or prefer a less regulated trekking route.
10.- How does the Ancascocha Trek end at Machu Picchu?
After reaching Km 82, trekkers travel to Ollantaytambo and continue by train to Aguas Calientes. On Day 4, the journey culminates with a guided tour of Machu Picchu, creating a strong sense of achievement after several days of high-altitude trekking.
11.- Who should choose the Ancascocha Trek instead of the Inca Trail?
The Ancascocha Trek 4 Days 3 Nights is ideal for experienced hikers, adventure travelers, and those seeking a more challenging and authentic alternative to the Inca Trail, with fewer crowds, higher passes, and deeper immersion in Andean landscapes and culture.
12.- What makes the Ancascocha Trek a truly rewarding Machu Picchu experience?
Reaching Machu Picchu after days of demanding trekking through remote Andean terrain creates a powerful sense of accomplishment. The combination of high-altitude wilderness, Inca heritage, and solitude makes the Ancascocha Trek one of the most meaningful trekking routes to Machu Picchu in Peru.
You are responsible for your personal belongings throughout the tour. Please be mindful of where you leave your items and make sure to remove everything from our vans, tents, and restaurants after each stop. Avoid leaving anything unattended during the hike, as other trekkers or staff might mistake it for lost property.

The trail then continues to Warmiwañusqa Pass (4,215 m / 13,692 ft), also known as Dead Woman’s Pass, one of the highest points on the Inca Trail.
After a short break at the pass, the route descends along a well-preserved section of the Inca stone path toward the Pacaymayo Valley, where the campsite is located near the river.

After breakfast, the trek continues with a gradual ascent toward Runkuraqay (3,800 m / 12,464 ft), a circular Inca structure without a roof, believed to have functioned as a checkpoint and resting place for Inca messengers. After a brief guided visit, the trail climbs further to Chaquicocha Pass (3,950 m / 12,959 ft).
From the pass, the route descends along a well-preserved section of the original Inca Trail, passing a small highland lake and entering areas of cloud forest vegetation.
The trail then leads to Sayacmarca (3,850 m / 12,551 ft), an important Inca archaeological site strategically located on a ridge above the Aobamba Valley. Access to the site is via a narrow stone staircase, reflecting the defensive and ceremonial nature of its design.

Travel Information
Make the Most of Your Peru Adventure with Cusco Journeys
At Cusco Journeys, we’re committed to making your adventure in Peru memorable, safe, and easy to enjoy. This guide includes the most important information to review before starting your trek — from altitude preparation and luggage management to Machu Picchu entry procedures and practical travel tips.
Please take a few minutes to read it carefully. It will help you prepare for your journey and enjoy the beauty of the Peruvian Andes with confidence.
During your acclimatization days, we recommend exploring some of Cusco’s nearby attractions:
Cusco City Tour: Visit the Main Square, the Cathedral, and Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun).
Sacred Valley Tour: Explore Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and the famous Maras Salt Mines.
Moray and Maras Tour: Discover the impressive Inca agricultural terraces and traditional salt ponds.
Q’eswachaka Bridge Tour: Visit the last handwoven Inca bridge still in use.
Rainbow Mountain Tour: Experience one of Peru’s most spectacular natural landscapes.
These excursions help your body adjust to the altitude while allowing you to discover the region’s rich culture and history.
Trek Balance Payment (in Cusco)
If you have an outstanding balance, please complete the payment at least two days before your trek. Otherwise, your reservation cannot be confirmed.
Whenever possible, we kindly ask that the remaining balance be paid in cash (USD or Peruvian Soles) during your briefing. There are several ATMs along Avenida Sol where both currencies are available.
Payments by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, PayPal, and debit cards are also accepted. Please note that online and card payments are subject to a 5% service fee charged by Niubiz and PayPal.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept personal or traveler’s checks.
Duffel Bag Information
You’ll receive your duffel bag during the briefing.
Size: 60 × 24 × 22 cm (23.6 × 9.45 × 8.66 in)
Maximum Weight:6 kg (13 lb), including your clothing, sleeping bag, and personal belongings.
Our porters will carry your duffel bag throughout the trek and return it to you each afternoon at camp. Please pack only the items you’ll need during the hike.
To protect this UNESCO World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu now operates with timed entry tickets and designated visitor circuits.
Main Circuits
Circuit 1: Panoramic viewpoints and upper terraces.
Circuit 2: The classic route through the main archaeological sector.
Circuit 3: Lower terraces and the agricultural sector.
For the Salkantay Trek and Inca Trail, the standard visit is usually Circuit 3, depending on ticket availability and current government regulations.
If you’d like to visit another circuit or hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, an additional entrance ticket is required and is subject to availability.
Please note that once you leave Machu Picchu, re-entry is not permitted.
Pick-Up of Guests
Guests are responsible for their personal belongings throughout the trek.
Before leaving campsites, restaurants, trains, or vehicles, please double-check that you have all your belongings with you. Avoid leaving valuables unattended during the trek.
If an item is found, our team will do everything possible to help recover it; however, Cusco Journeys cannot be held responsible for lost personal belongings.

Before You Go
Important Travel Information
At Cusco Journeys, we’re committed to making your adventure in Peru memorable, safe, and easy to enjoy. This brief guide includes the most important details to review before starting your trek or tour — from altitude preparation and luggage management to Machu Picchu entry and health tips.
Take a moment to read it carefully; it will help you get ready and experience the magic of the Andes with comfort and confidence.

Circuit 2: Central area of the citadel
Circuit 3: Lower sector and agricultural terraces
For our Inca Trail groups, the standard visit is usually Circuit 3, around 8:00 or 9:00 a.m., depending on ticket availability and government regulations. After completing your route, park rangers will guide you toward the exit — re-entry is not allowed.
If you wish to explore another route or stay longer, you can request an additional entrance ticket (subject to availability and extra cost).
Pick-Up of Guests
All pick-ups are made from your hotel within Cusco City. We recommend staying in the historic center for easier access. Our guide will confirm your pick-up time one day before the tour, but please note that it may vary by 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and hotel locations.
Cusco is an ancient city with narrow, cobbled streets, and some hotels or Airbnbs may not have direct vehicle access. If your accommodation is in such an area, we’ll coordinate the closest possible meeting point for your convenience.

After a delicious lunch in Pisac, we continue to Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town still inhabited today. This traditional town showcases pre-Columbian architecture at its finest.
Explore the impressive ruins overlooking the town and learn about the history and enduring beliefs of the people of the Sacred Valley.
